Ultrasound is today indispensable to a full consultation being a routine examination, painless, accurate, with wide attendance and accessibility. Ultrasound is used in 2D mode, making tissue sections and showing the organ structure. Evolution of technology has allowed the transition from 2D to 3D, in fact a reconstruction with the help of specialized software 2D sections, with playing a virtual images, but in real time, on device screen

3D/4D ultrasound is the most recent, complete and advanced form of ultrasonography, allowing increased accuracy of diagnosis by more than 30%. It allows to view child's image before birth, and in 4D mode (3D live) its movement in real time.

In addition to 3D/4D ultrasonography the new Siemens Acuson Antares provides features for differential diagnosis of malignant and benign tumours of the breast and thyroid using elastography method based on the differences between mechanical properties of tissues.
